Davis Materials: Approx. 75 yds size 10 cotton crochet thread (SouthMaid in French Rose used for sample); size 5 (1.9mm) steel hook (I used a Boye hook) OR Size Needed for Gauge . Gauge: RNDS 1 & 2 = about 1½" across . Finished Size: About 8¼" across at widest points after washing and blocking . Special Stitches: Beginning Shell (beg shl) - sl st to next ch sp, (ch 4, tr, ch 2, 2 tr) in same sp Shell (shl) - (2 tr, ch 2, 2 tr) in sp indicated Shell in shell (shl in shl) - work Shell in ch-2 sp of next Shell Picot (p) - ch 3, sl st in front loop and front vertical bar of sc just made . Note: Doily may "ruffle" somewhat until completed and blocked . . Begin with ch 5, join with sl st in first ch to form ring. . RND 1: ch 7 (counts as first tr and 3 ch), (tr in ring, ch 3) 11 times, join with sl st in 4th ch of beg ch-7. (12 tr, 12 ch-3 sps) . RND 2: sl st in next ch and into ch sp, (ch 1, sc) in same sp, ch 3, *sc in next ch-3 sp, ch 3*, rep from * to * around, join with sl st in top of first sc. (12 sc, 12 ch-3 sps) . RND 3: beg shl, shl in each ch-3 sp around, join with sl st in top of beg ch-4. (12 shl) . RND 4: beg shl, ch 2, (shl in shl, ch 2) around, join with sl st in top of beg ch-4. (12 shl, 12 ch-2 sps) . RND 5: sl st to ch sp, (ch 1, sc) in same sp, ch 5, (sc in next ch-2 sp, ch 5) around ending last rep with ch 1, tr in top of first sc to form last loop. (24 ch-5 lps, 24 sc) . RND 6: (sc, p, sc) in same lp, ch 5, *(sc, p, sc) in next ch-5 lp, ch 5*, rep from * to * around ending last rep with ch 1, tr in top of first sc to form last loop. (24 ch-5 lps, 24 p, 48 sc) . RND 7: Repeat RND 6. (24 ch-5 lps, 24 p, 48 sc) . RND 8: ch 4, 4 tr in same lp, *ch 2, shl in next ch-5 sp, ch 2**, 5 tr in next ch-5 sp*, rep from * to * around ending last rep at **, join with sl st in top of beg ch-4. (12 shl, 24 ch-2 sps, 60 tr) . RND 9: sl st in next 2 sts, ch 7 (counts as first tr and 3 ch), tr in same st as last sl st, ch 3, *sk ch-2 sp, (tr, ch 3) 2 times in ch-2 sp of next shl, sk ch-2 sp and next 2 tr**, (tr, ch 3) 2 times in next tr*, rep from * to * around ending last rep at **, join with sl st in 4th ch of beg ch-7. (48 tr, 48 ch-3 sps) . RND 10: ch 4 (counts as first tr), *sk ch-3 sp, tr in next tr, ch 7, sk ch-3 sp**, tr in next tr*, rep from * to * around ending last rep at **, join with sl st in top of beg ch-4. (48 tr, 24 ch-7 sps) . RND 11: ch 1, sc in same st, *p, sc in next tr, (4 sc, p, 4 sc) in next ch-7 sp**, sc in next tr*, rep from * to * around ending last rep at **, join with sl st in top of first sc.
