Davis Designer's Note: Don't let the Special Stitches scare you away - this doily is actually quite easy to do! :o) As with many oval doilies, this pattern is long enough as it is, and I needed a way to help reduce the length of each written Rnd, so I "created" more Special Stitches than I normally do. :o) . Materials for March Doily: Size 10 cotton crochet thread - Approx. 130 yds Aqua and approx 75 yds White (or desired colors); size 6 (1.8 mm) steel crochet hook (I used a Boye hook) OR Size Needed for Gauge (see Center #3 pattern for Gauge) . Finished Size: About 10" x 15¼" at widest points after washing and blocking . Special Stitches for this Doily: In addition to Special Stitches for Center Double Treble (dtr) - yo 3 times, insert hook in st or sp indicated, draw loop through, (yo, draw through 2 loops on hook) 4 times Triple Treble (ttr) - yo 4 times, insert hook in st or sp indicated, draw loop through, (yo, draw through 2 loops on hook) 5 times Triple Treble Cluster (ttrcl) - holding last loops of sts on hook, work ttr in next sc, ttr in each of next 2 ch sps, ttr in next sc, yo, draw through all 5 loops on hook Double Crochet Shell (dcshl) - 3 dc in next st, ch 3, 3 dc in next st Treble Crochet Shell (trshl) - (2 tr, ch 2, 2 tr) in sp indicated Beginning Large Treble Crochet Shell (beg lg trshl) - sl st into next ch lp, (ch 4, 5 tr, ch 3, 6 tr) in same lp Large Treble Crochet Shell (lg trshl) - (6 tr, ch 3, 6 tr) in ch lp indicated Beginning Treble Cluster (beg trcl) - ch 3, holding last loops of sts on hook, tr in each of next 3 sts, yo, draw through all 4 loops on hook Treble Cluster (trcl) - holding last loops of sts on hook, tr in each of next 4 sts as indicated, yo, draw through all 5 loops on hook Small Treble Cluster (sm trcl) - holding last loops of sts on hook, tr in each of next 3 sts as indicated, yo, draw through all 4 loops on hook Treble Decrease (tr dec) - holding last loops of sts on hook, tr in each of next 2 sts, yo, draw through all 3 loops on hook Picot (p) - ch 3, sc in front loop and front vertical bar of dc just made Picot 2 (p2) - ch 4, sc in front loop and front vertical bar of dc just made . Notes: Doily will "ruffle" until washed and blocked Doily is worked with 2 Center #3 motifs joined together . . Work 1st Center motif, Fasten Off at end of Rnd 6. Work 2nd Center motif same as 1st, and when working Rnd 6 (being careful to match sts of Rnd 4 on both Center motifs) join to 1st Center motif anywhere desired as follows: (replace 4th ch of next ch-7 lp with sc in corresponding lp of 1st Center motif) 3 times, then complete Rnd 6 same as 1st Center motif. Fasten Off. . RND 7: join White on LEFT Center motif (for left-handers, join on RIGHT Center motif - see photos below) with sc in 4th ch-7 lp After joining lp, *(ch 8, sc in next ch-7 lp) 11 times, ch 4, (dc, ch 3, dc) in next ch-7 lp, ch 3, (tr, ch 3, dtr) in next ch-7 lp, ch 1, ttrcl, ch 1, (dtr, ch 3, tr) in next ch-7 lp, ch 3, (dc, ch 3, dc) in next ch-7 lp, ch 4, sc in next ch-7 lp*, rep from * to* around, ch 4, tr in first sc to join and form last ch-8 lp.
