Davis Materials for October Doily: Size 10 cotton crochet thread - approx. 27 yds Pumpkin (OPTIONAL - approx. 7 yds Black for Spider) PLUS Materials as stated in pattern for Basic Center . Gauge: Same as for Basic Center . Finished Size: About 6½" across at widest points after washing and blocking . NO Special Stitches for this Doily!! . . With Pumpkin, work Rnds 1 - 5 of Basic Center, then Rnds 6 - 8. . RND 9: sl st in next ch and into ch-5 lp, ch 6 (counts as first dc and 3 ch), dc in same lp, ch 2, (dc, ch 3, dc, ch 2) in next ch-5 lp and in each lp around, join with sl st in 3rd ch of beg ch-6. (40 dc, 20 ch-3 sps, 20 ch-2 sps) . RNDS 10 & 11: ch 6, (dc in next dc, ch 3) around, join with sl st in 3rd ch of beg ch-6. (40 dc, 40 ch-3 sps) . RNDS 12 & 13: ch 7 (counts as first dc and 4 ch), (dc in next dc, ch 4) around, join with sl st in 3rd ch of beg ch-7. (40 dc, 40 ch-4 sps) . RNDS 14 & 15: ch 8 (counts as first dc and 5 ch), (dc in next dc, ch 5) around, join with sl st in 3rd ch of beg ch-8. (40 dc, 40 ch-5 sps) . RND 16: ch 10 (counts as first tr and 6 ch), (tr in next dc, ch 6) around, join with sl st in 4th ch of beg ch-10. Fasten Off White. (40 tr, 40 ch-6 sps) . RND 17: join Pumpkin with sc in any ch-6 sp, (ch 6, sc in next ch-6 sp) around, ch 3, dc in first sc to join and form last ch-6 lp. (40 sc, 40 ch-6 lps) . Rnd 18: *ch 6, drop loop from hook, insert hook under next ch-6 lp, pick up dropped loop and pull it through**, sl st around ch-6 lp*, rep from * to * around ending last rep at **, join with sl st in first ch. Fasten Off. Weave in ends. (40 sl st, 40 ch-6 lps) . OPTIONAL Spider . Notes: Front of Body is Right Side (RS) of work. Spider is worked continuously without breaking thread. . Body With Black, ch 7, join with sl st in first ch to form ring, ch 4 (first tr), 17 tr in ring, join with sl st in top of beg ch-4. Do Not Fasten Off. (18 tr) Head ch 7, join with sl st in 5th ch from hook to form ring, with RS facing and working in same direction as Body, ch 2 (first hdc), 10 hdc in ring, sl st in next tr on Body. Do Not Fasten Off. (11 hdc) Legs sl st in next 2 tr, *ch 8, sl st in Back Ridge of 2nd ch from hook and in Back Ridge of next 6 ch, sl st in same tr on Body, sl st in next tr*, rep from * to * 3 MORE times, sl st in next 5 tr, rep from * to * 4 times, sl st in last tr, sl st in top of beg ch-2 of Head to join. Fasten Off. Weave in ends. Eyes With Pumpkin and tapestry needle, make 2 French Knots on Head as desired. With Black or White thread, tack or sew Spider to Doily as desired. . .
