On the left - sample of panel worked in different colors.
On the right - sample of Edging, Joining and Border.

This afghan was made especially for me and was sent in time for my 40th Birthday in 2001!  :o)
I was only recently able to get a good photo to show you!  The colors are Teal and White!  :o)

.
Materials:
Worsted weight acrylic yarn - approx. 6 oz per panel (scraps of at least 5 yds in length will do nicely!) and approx. 16 oz for edging and border (Red Heart Super Saver used for sample); size I crochet hook (I used a Boye hook) OR size needed for gauge.
.
Gauge:
Panel measures about 6¼" wide x 60" long without edging and about 7¼" wide  x 61" long with edging; 5 rows in pattern = 3"
.
Finished Size of Afghan:
Approx. 44" x 62"
.
Special Stitch:
V-Stitch (V-st) - (dc, ch 1, dc) in st or sp indicated
.
.
NOTES:
Turning ch-3 at beg of each row counts as first dc.
Yarn lengths of 5 yards are sufficient to work 2 rows.
I normally work into the Back Ridge of chs (see Hints page) when working the first row.
PLEASE work a Gauge swatch according to pattern for 9 or 10 rows.  This will help to ensure that you get the most accurate gauge possible.  Use any size hook necessary to achieve proper gauge.
.
.
PANEL (make 6)
.
ROW 1: ch 24, V-st in 6th ch from hook, sk next ch, dc in next ch, (sk next ch, V-st in next ch, sk next ch, dc in next ch) across, ending with dc in last ch, ch 3, turn.  (5 V-sts, 6 dc)  Mark this row as Right Side (front)
.
ROW 2: (V-st in ch-1 sp of next V-st, dc in next dc) across, ending with dc in top of turning ch, ch 3, turn.  (5 V-sts, 6 dc)
.
Repeat Row 2 for a total of 100 rows.  Fasten off.  Weave in ends.
.
If using scraps, I recommend color changes at a minimum of 2 rows.
When changing colors, fasten off old color and turn, then join new color with a sc in top of first st and ch 2 to count as the first dc.  I also like to weave in ends or work over them as I go because it saves time! :o)

.
EDGING:
.
First Panel
.
RND 1: With starting ch at top and Right Side facing, join with sc in first ch, sc in each ch across ending with sc in ch just after last V-st, 3 sc in
next ch.  Work 2 sc in end of each row, working into sides of sts instead of around them (this gives a neater edge - see photo on right at top of page).  Work 3 sc in top of first st of last row, sc in each st and ch across, 3 sc in last st.  Work next long edge same as last long edge, working 2 sc in same sp as first sc, join with sl st in first sc.
.
RND 2: Sl st in next sc, ch 1, sc in same sc, (ch 3, sk next sc, sc in next sc) across, ch 3, for Corner, (sc, ch 3, sc) in center sc of next 3-sc group.  Working down first long side, (ch 3, sk next sc, sc in next sc) across, with (Corner in center sc of next 3-sc group)
*Note - YOU WILL HAVE AN EXTRA SC JUST BEFORE THIS CORNER. DO NOT CH 3 BEFORE WORKING CORNER.*
Working across top, (ch 3, sk next sc, sc in next sc) across working (ch 3, Corner in center sc of next 3-sc group).  Working down next long edge, sc in next sc, (ch 3, sk next sc, sc in next sc) across ending with (Corner in center sc of next corner), ch 3, join with sl st in first sc.  Fasten off.  Weave in ends.
.
To Join Remaining Panels:
.
Work edging as above to Corner just before last long edge.  For Corner Joining, (sc, ch 1, sl st in Corner of first strip, ch 1, sc) in center sc of next 3-sc group, sc in next sc, (ch 1, sl st in next ch-3 sp on first panel, ch 1, sk next sc, sc in next sc) across, work Corner Joining, ch 3, join with sl st in first sc.  Fasten off.  Weave in ends.  Repeat for each panel until all 6 are joined.
.
Outer Border:
.
After all panels are joined together, join with sc in any Corner ch-3 sp, 2 sc in same sp, ch 1, (sc in next ch-3 sp, ch 1) around entire afghan, making sure to work (3 sc, ch 1) in each Corner ch-3 sp, join with sl st in first sc.  Fasten off.  Weave in ends.
